Summary

Trapped in a world ruled by the Elves, separated from Geralt and her destiny, Ciri will need all her training as a fighter and sorceress to survive in the fifth novel of the Witcher, Andrzej Sapkowski’s groundbreaking epic fantasy series that inspired the hit Netflix show and the blockbuster video games — in hardcover for the first time!

After walking through the portal in the Tower of Swallows and narrowly escaping death, Ciri finds herself in a completely different world。 。 。 an Elven world。 Time does not seem to exist and there are no obvious borders or portals to cross back into her home world。 She is trapped。

But this is the child of prophecy, and she will not be defeated。 She knows she must escape to finally rejoin the Witcher and his companions—and also to conquer her worst nightmare。 Leo Bonhart, the man who chased, wounded, and tortured Ciri, is still on her trail。 And the world is still at war。

I’ve come to the understanding that Geralt and yenefer are dead and ciri is an unreliable narrator。 While I like this idea much more than them being alive, I cannot stand not having closure。 Still so many questions left unanswered

Did the author know where they were going with this story beforehand? The last third is rushed, while it's about the end of the journey。 Beside that it for me had two major flaws: firstly, breaking characters down only works if the circumstances contain some realism (not plot statements without reason) and if you tackle the emotional repercussions。 Secondly, killing off characters does not make a story end。 It's lazy and lacks impact when there is no proper plot to make it necessary。Honestly, why on earth did Emhir change his mind?Summarised, an anti-climax not fitting the story, where the looming cataclysm isn't addressed, major plot development is talked through in a single conversation instead of matured during the rest of the story, and circumstances have no clear conclusion。 Sad face。I suddenly appreciate the TV series changes more。2 stars because I did finish reading, and an ending to a story is still better than none at all。 。。。more

“Because a story where the decent ones die and the scoundrels live and carry on doing what they want is full of shit”…。 What can I say, folks? It writes itself。 What a disappointing ending to such an incredible series。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Loved it。 Ending is very amusing thought very sad。 Character evolution throughout the novels is compelling。 For me this book is a nice conclusion to the story of the witcher and the witcher girl, but I can see why some people don't like it。。。 I am quite sure Geralt and Yennefer died and that ended up on Avalon like King Arthur。 Loved it。 Ending is very amusing thought very sad。 Character evolution throughout the novels is compelling。 For me this book is a nice conclusion to the story of the witcher and the witcher girl, but I can see why some people don't like it。。。 I am quite sure Geralt and Yennefer died and that ended up on Avalon like King Arthur。 。。。more

The story is wrapped up。 Was satisfied with how each story plot in the whole Witcher world was brought to a close。 The only thing is about the dreaming bits at the start did not sustain my enthusiasm, so much that I almost put the book down。 Luckily, I continued and concluded a good read to the end of the book。

Now that I've read all 5 main books, I think it's time to revisit the collections of stories that started this series in the first place。 (view spoiler)[I swear to god if another beautiful redemption arc ends in death I RIOT。 (hide spoiler)] Now that I've read all 5 main books, I think it's time to revisit the collections of stories that started this series in the first place。 (view spoiler)[I swear to god if another beautiful redemption arc ends in death I RIOT。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Although there was a brief part of too much politics and history, that ruined the pace for me, it's still 5 star worthy。 For itself and for the series。 Although there was a brief part of too much politics and history, that ruined the pace for me, it's still 5 star worthy。 For itself and for the series。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 Closing off the political parts kind of made some parts a drag。 But really enjoyed the conclusion of Ciri/Garalt/Yen and their band of friends。 The series is worth revisiting and that’s a major plus。 I’d love to catch the clues/hints that I missed upon a second read。 It’s one of those “is the top still spinning” endings and I enjoy those。 Big fan。

It's interesting how every book in this series seems to have a slightly different tone。 This one is less grimdark than the previous one, at least until we get to the war scenes, which are beautifully written and absolutely horrifying。 It also does some very interesting stuff with Ciri's time and space jumping power and switching perspectives between different characters (and occasionally uses flashbacks to great effect)。 Unfortunately there's still a few political negotiation scenes that complet It's interesting how every book in this series seems to have a slightly different tone。 This one is less grimdark than the previous one, at least until we get to the war scenes, which are beautifully written and absolutely horrifying。 It also does some very interesting stuff with Ciri's time and space jumping power and switching perspectives between different characters (and occasionally uses flashbacks to great effect)。 Unfortunately there's still a few political negotiation scenes that completely lost me, but all in all I found this book enjoyable (and the ending hit hard, even though I already knew what was going to happen)。 。。。more

Der letzte Teil der Hexer-Saga vereint alle Aspekte, die schon die vorherigen Bände außergewöhnlich gemacht haben。 Und auch wenn man gerne ewig weiter lesen würde, wird ein guter Abschluss gefunden。

Bro。。。 what the fuck。 Who allowed it to be published。 Structure choice? Questionable at best。The fact that the whole point of the series is an elven prophesy and then the actual elves get like 5 minutes of screentime is telling。 Also that everyone in the books is literally breathing and sweating mysoginy and sexism through their pores。 I wish it would at least stop at people。 Nah dawg。 Dwarves? Mysoginy。 Half-breeds? Mysoginy。 Elves that are literally living in another dimension?? You guessed ri Bro。。。 what the fuck。 Who allowed it to be published。 Structure choice?

I tried finishing it 7 times。 Technically I did finish it twice but I was not at all paying attention。 I give up。 I enjoyed the books that were collections of short stories the most (Last Wish, Sword of Destiny, and Season of Storms)。 The rest of the books had very interesting minor characters but every storyline with Ciri was dreadful, I did not want to read those parts。 Yennefer too at times was almost as annoying as Ciri。 Something about the female characters was so unlikeable。 The most likea I tried finishing it 7 times。 Technically I did finish it twice but I was not at all paying attention。 I give up。 I enjoyed the books that were collections of short stories the most (Last Wish, Sword of Destiny, and Season of Storms)。 The rest of the books had very interesting minor characters but every storyline with Ciri was dreadful, I did not want to read those parts。 Yennefer too at times was almost as annoying as Ciri。 Something about the female characters was so unlikeable。 The most likeable female characters either died or appeared briefly。 。。。more

I have just finished the book, after reading the entire series in the past month or so。 I will try and summarize my feelings while they're still burning fresh in my mind。Let's start off by saying this is my favourite book in the series (I haven't read Season of Storms yet, but I doubt it can outshine this)。 It's, in my opinion, the perfect and fitting ending for the saga。 It made me hold my breath, cry, rejoice and yell at the page in a way that honestly surprised me。 Previous books in the serie I have just finished the book, after reading the entire series in the past month or so。 I will try and summarize my feelings while they're still burning fresh in my mind。Let's start off by saying this is my favourite book in the series (I haven't read Season of Storms yet, but I doubt it can outshine this)。 It's, in my opinion, the perfect and fitting ending for the saga。 It made me hold my breath, cry, rejoice and yell at the page in a way that honestly surprised me。 Previous books in the series had highs and lows for me, but not this one, this one was a wild ride。 In the past books I felt at times frustrated by the (seemingly) pointless introduction of new characters and scenarios out of the blue, the manic attention to detail when it came to army divisions and leaders, political machinations and intrigue。 I now realise what it was all for, and I regret my frustration。 This book feels so rounded, well knitted and satisfying because of that。 Without me realising it, all those details pulled me into the world in a subtle but effective way。 They made me care not only about Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, and a host of less central characters, but about the course of the war as well。 This book evoked emotions in a way that I very much value whenever I read, especially when I embark on a saga as long as this one。 (view spoiler)[There was visceral satisfaction in seeing Vilgefortz and Bonhart finally slayed, although it came at the cost of some of my favourite characters' lives - namely Cahir and above all, Regis。 And there was visceral horror in everything Ciri was put through during her misadventures, and in how her being a girl was turned into a makeshift weapon to terrorize and exploit her。 I felt hopeful right at the end, with Geralt and Yennefer finally together and in peace, whether in the beyond, in another world or in their own。 The vagueness of it befits the legend they later become。 And I felt hopeful that Ciri has finally broken away from her destiny and she can now mark her own path and not be rocked back and forth by events and tragedies, as she has been so far。And a special mention goes to the chapter dedicated to the Battle of Brenna。 Very well constructed and orchestrated, it never dropped the pace and it never grew tedious。 It was easy to follow the development of the fighting and the individual paths followed by certain characters, but it never felt spoon-fed either。 (hide spoiler)]I'm not sure I've listed everything I should have listed, but the point remains: this book delivered, and it delivered big time for me。 。。。more
